Our registered patent attorneys feel at home in the lab with our clients, helping them capitalize on their intellectual property. We are able to work closely with our client inventors throughout the patent process. We enjoy assisting the inventor to identify and tease out viable embodiments while the invention is still being reduced to practice. We are able to draft patent applications that teach multiple embodiments both narrowly and broadly. We feel that such applications are best suited for today’s patent office in view of current regulatory and case law pitfalls. We focus not only on the prior art that came before, but also on the worldwide markets where the product will be used. Each of our patent attorneys prepares and prosecutes patents both before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and abroad, typically under the Patent Cooperation Treaty and in partnership with the firm's MERITAS affiliates world-wide.
In addition to preparation and prosecution of patents at home and abroad, each of our patent attorneys handles litigation matters. This often enables us to anticipate and manage common litigation issues during the patent prosecution phase. Our collective experience covers a wide base that includes aerospace engineering, materials science, chemical and biochemical arts, life sciences, nanotechnology, electrical engineering and information technology, mechanical engineering and chemical engineering.
Collectively, our patent attorneys have filed and prosecuted numerous patent applications; worked as in-house counsel at a Fortune 500 IP Law Department; handled research collaborations between industry and universities; negotiated technology transfer; worked in R&D for the chemical industry; and defended product manufacturers in bodily injury litigation. We have also represented clients in patent infringement litigation throughout the United States. Our depth positions us to meet the needs of our clients, whether they are large corporations or emerging companies built around new technologies.
We enjoy sharing our knowledge and experience with others. We have published articles in respected journals on such topics as genetics, risk management, pharmaceutical litigation, ethical considerations in sending emails and copyright law in the digital age. We frequently speak to inventor and business organizations on such topics as the inventor-patent attorney relationship, commercializing the technology, clinical trials, pharmacogenomics and genetics, biotechnology, hot topics in intellectual property and antitrust and IP law.
We are members and leaders in organizations that match our professional interests, such as the ABA Section of Science and Technology, the American Chemical Society (ACS), the Executive Committee for the Louisville Section of ACS, the American Intellectual Property Association (AIPLA), the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), and serve as a committee member for the MERITAS Law Firms intellectual property committee. We continue to be both grateful and humbled by the recognition of our peers, as shown by some of our group members being recognized by Best Lawyers in America, Kentucky Super Lawyers and receipt of the Martindale-Hubbell’s AV rating.
While our registered patent attorneys form the core of the intellectual property practice group, other Firm attorneys frequently work to secure protection both in the United States and abroad for trademarks, copyrights, business formation and acquisition and commercial transactions involving intellectual property. Our collaborative approach helps the client develop marketable technology, with strong patent protection attractive to investors. Recognizing that intellectual property is intangible and that it has value, we assist our clients as they perform IP audits that identify, categorize, and assign real value to their intellectual property. From the lab, to the boardroom, to copyright, trade mark and patent offices world-wide, we are always there and with our clients every step of the way.
